Ministry of Interior Affairs has announced the closure of all land and sea borders. The move is to curb pre & post election violence ahead of Saturday’s elections. The announcement was made in a statement released by the Ministry, which stated that the closure is “to allow for the peaceful conduct of the forthcoming national election”. The Nigerian Immigration service has also been given a directive to ensure that non Nigerians do not participate in the elections.
The border closures start at midnight today – March 25 and will run till midnight on Saturday, March 28. In other election related news, the Nigerian Police has ordered the restriction of vehicular movement across Nigeria on election days – March 28 and April 11. The restrictions will be between 8am & 5pm on both days.
