buhari speaking iiALL Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate retired General Muhammadu Buhari has said he sees nothing wrong with him picking a fellow Muslim as a running mate if he clinches the party’s nomination. Over the last week, there has been a lot of speculation that if General Buhari emerges as the party’s presidential candidate, he will pick Lagos State governor Babatunde Fashola as his running mate. However, Governor Fashola is a Muslim and political commentators have warned that this poses dangers, with former president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo adding his voice to those cautioning against have a president and vice president who share the same faith. Chief Obasanjo warned over the weekend that a Muslim/Muslim or a Christian/Christian ticket is dangerous, adding that Nigeria was too religious-conscious and sensitive for that arrangement. He stated that any attempt to proceed with such a presidential ticket would not only amount to insensitivity of the highest order but will also be very bad politics.  However, General Buhari a former head of state who once had a fellow Muslim as his number two,  said there is nothing wrong if he picks a fellow Muslim as his running mate. He added that he is not a religious fanatic, so is not bothered about the faith of who he stands with. General Buhari added: “Nigerians will always uncover impossible room for manoeuvre for politicians.
