APC Party Leader Ahmed Bola Tinubu Drops Former Ekiti Governor Kayode Fayemi As General Buhari’s Running Mate FORMER Ekiti State governor Kayode Fayemi is thought to have been dropped as the potential running mate of General Muhammadu Buhari after continued disagreements between him and All Progressives Congress (APC) leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. After his surprise loss in the Ekiti State gubernatorial elections to Ayo Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Fayemi became one of the favourites to be named as General Buhari’s running mate. He became the front runner for the position after the APC leadership decided to jettison the idea of a Buhari/Tinubu ticket because both of them are Muslims.
Consequently, Asiwaju began the search for a southern Christian running mate but wanted one of his loyalists. Of late, Dr Fayemi and Asiwaju Tinubu are believed to have had several political disagreements, resulting in the party leader opting for three fresh candidates said to include Professor Yemi Osibajo, a former commissioner in Lagos State, Senator Ajayi Borofice presently representing Ondo North and Wale Edun, another former Lagos State commissioner.
