Biography/Profile of The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Amaju Pinnick


Amaju-PinnickAmaju Pinnick is the Delta State Sports Commissioner and current president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

According to the voting process held in Warri, Delta State, on 30 September, 2014, Amaju Pinnick got 32 of the 44 votes in the run-off after polling 25 in the first round of voting during the NFF elective general assembly.pinnick

Amaju Pinnick (born in 1971) is the fifteenth child in a family of nineteen children. Born to a polygamous father, the late Chief Oritsetimeyin Japhet Pinnick, he is the last child from mother’s side.

His father, who passed away when Amaju was 12, worked with the U.A.C in the 30s, where he rose to become one of the company’s pioneer Nigerian managers. His mother, Madam Rebecca Ayomike, worked as a petty trader to keep alive the dream of educating her children.

During his high school days, he used to be the head of Hussey College debate team.

In 1994, he graduated from the University of Benin where he studied Political Science/Public Administration.

During FIFA sojourn in Nigeria, Pinnick worked in the Technical Study Group (TSG) under Walter Gagg, with the Event Manager, Michael Bakini. As a result he ended up being one of the direct aides to the FIFA President, Mr. Joseph Sepp Blatter.

Pinnick rose through the ranks in Delta State before taking his current position as the Chairman of the DSFA, where he secured his second term in 2012, unopposed during the elections. He was the Vice Chairman of the DSFA in 2003 and has always remained prominent in the Delta football fraternity ever since.

Under Pinnick, during the 2012 National Sports Festival hosted by Lagos State, the state were named overall champions of the competition with 114 gold, 99 silver and 75 bronze medals. The state displaced Rivers to second spot with 76 gold, 71 silver and 70 bronze medals while third and fourth placed Lagos and Edo States could only boast of 64 and 25 gold medals in that order.Amaju-Pinnick

Pinnick is married to a woman who hails from Abia State while he is an Itsekiri man. He is a father to three children.

He is the Chairman of the Delta State Football Association, a position he attained in 2005. He was the 2nd Vice-Chairman of the DSFA in 1999 and later became the 1st Vice-Chairman in 2002.

His romance with the NFF started as being a member of the NFA Marketing & Sponsorship Committee from 2003 to 2006; and being a member of the NFF Appeals Committee from 2010 till date. He was also a Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Foreign Relations from 2005 to 2007.

Before today’s election, he promised “to reduce the level of litigation in the NFF and also provide regular grants to state FAs. One of his plans is to have Nigerian referees officiate at the 2022 World Cup.
