The-Inspector-General-of-Police-Mr-Suleiman-AbbaMr Suleiman Abba is 55 years Old & He hails from Gwaram local government area of Jigawa State while the retired IG is from Gusau local government area of Zamfara state. Both states are located within the North-West geopolitical zone.  
The new acting  IG was born on March 22, 1959 and has degrees in History and Law. He enlisted in the Nigerian police as cadet inspector on December 31, 1984 and is due for retirement on March 22, 2019. ig-abba2
He was promoted AIG on February 22, 2012.Positions previously held by him in the Police include Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, FCT Command, Deputy Force Secretary and Commissioner of Police, Rivers State.His appointment is with effect from Friday, August 1, 2014 Suleiman Abba, an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 7, served as Aide de Camp (ADC) to Mrs Maryam Abacha, during her First Ladyship to General Sani Abacha.Jigawa-born Abba was also a key member of Al-Mustapha’s dreaded Strike Force. 
Suleiman-Abba-2After Abacha’s sudden death, a stupendously wealthy Abba managed to pay his way through the ranks to become Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and then AIG.Al-Mustapha, gathered he had exploited his relationship with the Presidency to push Abba’s candidacy for the plum job. When Jonathan didn’t appear convinced, Al-Mustapha recruited top northern traditional rulers into the campaign.Interestingly, the outgoing IG has thrown his weight behind Abba’s candidacy. Abubakar had upon appointment as IG in turn appointed Abba chairman, Police Cooperative.Each member of the over 370,000- strong police force contributes a minimum of N200 monthly, making the cooperative the largest and richest cooperative in Nigeria.It was gathered that several officers had raised questions on the running of the cooperative by Abba and his godfather, the retiring IG. A source at the Ministry of Police Affairs said Abubakar’s support for Abba ” expected.” The Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, on Thursday appointed Suleiman Abba as acting Inspector General of Police.
