Biography/Profile/History Of Former Aviation Minister “Princess Stella Oduah-Ogiemwonyi”


220px-Princess_Stella_Oduah-OgiemwonyiPrincess Stella Oduah-Ogiemwonyi known as Stella Odua was born on January 5, 1962, to Igwe D.O Oduah the Akili-Ozizo of Ogbaru, Local Government Area of Anambra State.

After her early education, she studied Accounting, and obtained her Bachelors Degree at St. Paul’s College, Lawrence Ville, United States. Later, she also went for a post-graduate degree and obtained her masters degree in Business Administeration. Having had her uviversity education in the United States Of America, Stella Oduah returned to Nigeria in 1983, and got employed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.Stella-Oduah-620x411

In the year 1992, Stella Odua who had flare for entrepreneurship, abandoned the NNPC job to set-up her own company. She then established  the Sea Petroleum & Gas Company Limited (SPG), an independent marketer of petroleum products in Nigeria.

Her desire to always strive for greatness and make Nigeria a better place led Stella Odua to venture into politics. Accordingly, She was involved in the President Goodluck Jonathan 2011 campaign from the formative stage. She was assigned the office of Director of Admin and Finance at the Goodluck Support Group (GSG) office and latter, she held the same position during the general campaign. She then made a lot of impact with her wealth of experience. The role she played during the entire process, got her endeared to many Nigerians during the process.princess_stella_oduah_ogiemwonyi_101

After the Presidential Primary, Stella Odua collaborated with Chief A.J Turner, Mike Omeri and Godsday Orubebe to initiate a strategic group called NEIGBOUR 2 NEIGHBOUR CAMPAIGN GROUP, which is now a household name. This group systematically handled the campaign process from the wards level to the centre. With the leadership acumen of Stella Odua, Nigerians were mobilized to vote in large numbers for President Jonathan.

In recognition of her selfless service and the need to work with a team of committed Nigerians, on July 2, 2011, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan nominated Stella Odua as a Minister.  This led to her eventual appointment as and wearing-in as the Minister of Aviation, a sector that needed transformation so much.Stella-Oduah3

When she assumed office, Stella Odua turned her ministry around by clothing it with the scaling up efficient service delivery and 21st century modernization, a stride that has not been seen in the Nigerian aviation industry for more than 25 years. During her term in office, the first generation airports got new tarmacs and were re-modeled to compete with their equals around the world.

Also in her regime as the minister of aviation, she ensured that airline passengers are not excessively taxed or exploited by agencies, airlines or those who are into bi-lateral agreements with the Aviation ministry, air travel costs remain reasonable.

Stella Odua Simultaneously reconstructed and remodeled 11 airports. All these took place under the first phase of her remodeling programme. She secured approval for the construction of five brand new International terminals as well as Cargo terminals from a concessionary loan from Chinese EXIM bank and got import duty waivers from the Presidency and the FEC on all imported aircraft and spare parts as part of effort to grow domestic airlines.


In the March 28, 2015 General Election, Stella Odua secured a seat to represent Anambra North in the Upper chambers of the Nigerian National Assembly.
