Tiwa Savage first came to the consciousness of most Nigerians in 2010 when she released her infectious smash hit Kele Kele Love late 2010. Her other hit singles include Love, Love Me (3x), Without My Heart and Ife wa gbona.
At the age of 16 Tiwa was opportune to sing backup for George Michael. Â Before then, she was a member of her high school band â€“ an opportunity which allowed her to gaze through the rows of musicians and realized that her destiny is to be positioned in the spotlight.
Tiwa was born & bred in Lagos, and graduated from the University of Kent in the UK with a degree in business administration and accounts. Armed with the degree, Tiwa continued to pursue her first love, and when she got the call to sing backup for Mary J. Bligeâ€” decided to forego accounting to focus on music full-time.
As a backup singer, Tiwa Savage has toured with international acclaimed artists such as Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, George Michael, Emma Bunton (Spice Girls), Blu Cantrell, Kelly Clarkson to name a few.
In 2006 she participated in the UKâ€™s X-Factor and made it to the Top 24 while she was attending school for her 2nd degree at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts where she received a scholarship to study music from which she graduated in 2007. Since 2007 she has worked with notable producers such as Black Eyed Peas drummer Keith Harris, Oak Warren Felder (Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown), Babyface and many others.
An avid songwriter since the age of 15, Tiwa is signed to Sony ATV as a songwriter. Â She co-wrote the track â€œCollard greens and Cornbreadâ€ on Fantasiaâ€™s Grammy nominated album â€œBack to meâ€, Monicaâ€™s â€œNew Lifeâ€ and also has background vocal credits on Whitney Houstonâ€™s album â€œI look to you.â€
In 2010 upon releasing her debut single â€œkele Keleâ€ Tiwa set up her own label imprint, 323 Entertainment with her manger Tunji â€œTJ Billzâ€ Balogun, as she embarked on a solo career
Two years since her debut on the local music scene she has been nominated for several awards, including but not limited to 2012 Headies â€“ HipHop World Awards (Best Female Vocalist, Best R & B single) & 2012 Channel O Music Awards (Female Video of the year, Most Gifted R&B music video of the Year).
In December 2011 she co-hosted Nigerian Idol Season II alongside Illrymz and acted alongside Nollywood heavyweights Joke Silva and Ireti Doyle in the stage adaptation of â€œFor Coloured Girlsâ€.
In early 2012, 323 Entertainment teamed up with Super producer Don Jazzyâ€™s label Mavin Records and was featured on the labelâ€™s debut compilation album. Tiwa is now pronounced the 1st Lady of the Mavin Records
Of recent, Tiwa secured an endorsement deal with Pepsi â€“ making her the first African female artist to be associated with the Pepsi brand.
â€œOnce Upon A Timeâ€ her highly anticipated debut album was released on the 3rd of July 2013 with rave reviews
In an interview in 2010 Tiwa expressed that, she has learned that having a full life means fusing all aspects of itâ€”from music to business to charity. To that end she has been involved in many youth empowerment and breast cancer screening projects as well as her own organizations.
After studying Business Administration at the University of Kent, she further went to study professional music at the Berklee College of Music.
At the 2014 edition of the Headies Awards, Tiwa who performed on stage with Patoranking was hugely criticized by fans and music lovers. In the performance, Tiwa was criticized of making lewd movements with Patoranking. The picture showing the Mavin Recordâ€™s starâ€™s backside glued to the reggae singerâ€™s front in a dangerously rhythmic manner was sad to be highly controversial and questionable. Many claimed that it was glaring that Tiwa was romancing the reggae star on stage. Others however, saw no big deal in the act as it was just normal music cum dance performance.
In April 2016, Tiwa Savageâ€™s marriage broke down with loverÂ and former manager Tee Billz. There were rumours that she was cheating withÂ her fellow artiste; Tuface, Don jazzy andÂ Dr Sid. She has however debunked all the claims of her infidelity and she accused herÂ Â former lover of many wrong doings as well.
