The Nollywood actress who has featured in movies like Ibaje Ojokan, Ifejafunmi, Okun Omo Iya, Eldorado and Jabira opened up on motherhood and career in this chat with Entertainer.

How did you come into acting?

That was when I met Femi Branch. I told him I wanted to join a theater group but he advised that I should first produce a movie which I did in 2009 and overnight, Bimbo Ogunnowo became a household name in the industry and today the rest is history.

What have been your challenges?

The basic challenge we have is the issue of piracy. In fact, piracy is killing our jobs. We spend so much on production only to have our works pirated. Another challenge is this zeal that I have which is a strong desire to do more. I want everybody to know that I can act any role without any hindrance.

Can you recall your first movie and the role you acted?

Yes, my first production was Ifejafunmi where I acted the role of a humble girl.

What made you go off screen for a while?

I went off screen for motherhood duties three years ago and I had a precious Jewel and so I decided to stay back to nurture her.

How do you balance acting with motherhood?

Well, I would say it’s not been easy at all. Sometimes I forget things because I want the best for my daughter, I want my child to enjoy me to the fullest. Anytime Im am off to location for days I make sure she’s in proper care but I must confess that it’s not an easy task.

Aside acting, what else do you do?

I am a skin therapist, I sell all sorts of hair extensions and all manner of skin care products.

Between skin care business and movie making, which is more profitable?

(Laughs) Honestly, skin care business is very profitable. It is a fast moving business because everybody wants to look nice and good but movie making is not so bad though.

Has motherhood changed anything about you?

Motherhood has really changed a lot about me. I can say I am more mature now because I know I have a daughter looking up to me as her role model. However, ever since I gave birth, I have added weight and I’m not finding it easy (laughter).

You have a glowing skin, what is your beauty secret?

My number one beauty secret is water; I drink water a lot especially in the morning and I don’t joke with tomatoes too.

What is your perception of Love?

Love is a very good thing if you are lucky enough to be loved by a genuine person. I easily fall in love a lot and that is why I am always careful.

Talking about your recent movie, Ibaje Ojokan, the story line is so deep, what inspired it?

If you know Abimbola Ogunnowo very well I am sure you will advise me not to go into details about my story. Actually it is a true life story; it was inspired by the story of my life.

What project are you working on at the moment?

I have another movie coming out soon entitled Arewa. It’s another beautiful story that is going to rule the screen after which I will shoot another one. That one is a bigger project so I am taking my time because I don’t want anything lower than the standard of Ibaje Ojokan. It is entitled Birthmark.

So, what message do you have for your fans?

To all my fans out there I want to say I love my all. Your comments keep me going. I also appreciate your criticisms because it makes me want to do more. All I am saying is just keep your fingers crossed, I won’t let you down.
