gbemssGbemisola Saraki To Run For Kwara State Governorship In Nigeria’s 2015 Elections, Gbemisola Saraki, former senator and younger sister of former governor of Kwara State, Bukola Saraki, has made clear her intent to contest for the position of Kwara State governor come February 2015, on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

This is her second attempt at securing the position after an unsuccessful 2011 bid under the platform of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN). Saraki lost in 2011 to the incumbent, Abdulfatah Ahmed, the of PDP, now part of the APC and seeking re-election. Former Senator Gbemisola Saraki, who submitted her intent to contest for the Kwara governorship last Thursday Ms. Saraki announced her decision in a letter of intent to the PDP chairman in the state and its Elders Committee. She detailed that following extensive consultations with members and stakeholders of the party and the public, she feels she is the best candidate for the position.

The letter, dated October 2, stated: “This decision is informed, on the one hand, by calls by family members, friends and several thousands of members of our party who are convinced about my capacity to lead the state out of its present state of hopelessness and stagnation which the ruling party has deliberately thrown it into.”  SEE MORE ON PAGE 2
