Jesse Lingard scored in extra-time as Manchester United came from behind to give Louis van Gaal a piece of silverware and leave Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace to wonder what might have been.
Manchester United’s love affair with the FA Cup continued in dramatic style at Wembley as the Reds beat Crystal Palace 2-1 to win the competition.
Louis van Gaal’s men had to come from behind after conceding a 78th-minute opener scored by Jason Puncheon and equalised swiftly through Juan Mata to take the final into extra-time.
United suffered a blow in the additional period of 30 minutes when Chris Smalling was sent off for a second bookable offence but the remaining ten men rallied to great effect and Jesse Lingard smashed in a stunning volley with 10 minutes left on the clock. It was a fitting goal to win the Cup and it triggered tremendous celebrations when referee Mark Clattenburg blew the final whistle.
