Muhammadu Buhari ‘Fires’ Comptroller-General of Immigration, Abeshi

The Comptroller-General of Nigerian Immigration Service, Martin Abeshi, will vacate office on the expiration of his tenure following an order from President Muhammadu Buhari.

Daily Sun reports that Abeshi, who was appointed as successor to former Comptroller General, David Parradang following his role in the tragic 2014 Immigration recruitment saga, was not considered suitable to continue in office as his tenure had since lapsed.

Nasarawa State-born Abeshi has been mired in controversy during his time at the helm, with reports of widespread bribery and nepotism among the top brass of the service, and this may have influenced President Buhari’s decision.

Besides, it was also gathered that the Immigration CG was due for retirement since last December but allegedly lobbied his way back to the top job.

His replacement has not been announced.
