Nigerian Northern Elders Forum Express it Support With whoever is APC’s Presidential Candidate

KwankwasoNIGERIA’S Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has resolved to support the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) presidential candidate in the 2015 election because it objects to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) granting President Goodluck Jonathan an automatic ticket.   With general elections due in February next year, the presidential polls will be a two-horse race between the ruling PDP and the main opposition party the APC. Already the PDP has selected President as its presidential candidate, while the APC is currently conducting primaries to determine its own flagbearer.   NEF officials said they are unhappy with the fact that the PDP granted President Jonathan an automatic ticket, which prevented aspirants from the north from contesting on the platform of the party. Professor Ango Abdullahi, the NEF chairman, said that despite President Jonathan’s power of incumbency and the deployment of state resources at his disposal, he would not win the election if the region voted against him.   He added: “Our position has not changed. We don’t mind him contesting but we are not going to work for him to become president of this country again because we don’t believe that we have had any president that has been so divisive, that has heightened religious tendencies, hatred, ethnic militancy, high rate of impunity and a tremendous amount of insensitivity.
