OJB: ‘I am the one searching for you now’ – Sesan Adeniji writes

urlOJB died at the age of 49

If there was one man that inspired, mastermind and empowered an army of the new generation of artistes that revolutionized the Nigerian music industry in the early 2000s, that man was OJB.

He succeeded not just as a producer but as a recording artiste. I Will miss you Baba. Your song ‘Searching’ remains one of the best R&B song ever written and sung.

He opened his house and music studio for a whole lot of artistes to spring up from. His Gbaja residence in Surulere, was like a Mecca of sorts for artistes.

From Ruggedman, Jazzman Olofin, Durella, Nomoreloss, K-show and 6ix O…to name a few. Himself and Paul I.K Dairo singlehandedly took the modern day music industry to a height everyone today is enjoying from.

I remember walking into his studio when he was recording 2face’s debut album. I remember him telling me to help take 2face Idibia‘s picture. That picture became the cover art for 2face’s Grass to Grace video CD.

He succeeded not just as a producer but as a recording artiste. I will miss you Baba. Your song ‘Searching’ remains one of the best R&B song ever written and sung.

Just like the song…’I am the one who’s searching for all the great memories you have left with us’. RIP OJB!
