The band is made up of Bryan Chweya, Maureen Kunga and Wambui Ngugi, and was formed shortly after they met in 2008. Sharing a passion for music, they wrote a few songs for the fun of it and decided to take it further, eventually performing in venues all over Nairobi.
They have shared the stage with numerous local artists, including Eric Wainaina, Sauti Sol and Suzzana Owiyo, as well as South Africa’s Jonathan Butler and Anthony David from the USA. Their mission has always been to bring quality music to the industry and put East Africa on the musical map.
Jana Usiku was the first release from Elani. Premiering in September 2013, it is a track that calls for the world to put their troubles aside in order to sing and dance. It was produced by Mudigi Savara, and the music video was directed by Steve Muriungi.
Their second single, Milele, is about true love. It highlights the importance of turning a deaf ear to what people may say about their love, and was also produced by Mudigi Savara, with a music video by Enos Olik. SEE MORE ON PAGE 2
