Super Falconets on Sunday lost 0-1 to Germany in Women’s final of the world cup in Canada

250814F-Asisat-OshoalaThe Nigeria U20 women’s football team, the Super Falconets on Sunday lost 0-1 to Germany in the final of the world cup in Canada. The Falconets were heavy favourites going into the game decided at the Olympic Stadium, Montreal but it was the Germans that tore the form books to shreds. Asisat Oshoala was the player expected star in the contest following her impressive form in the tournament and she duly got the game’s first real chance. It was an opportunity she created from absolutely nothing as she robbed defender, Margarita Gidion of the ball, before rounding the German goalkeeper, Meike Kamper only to shoot into the side netting from a tight angle. Oshoala came close again in the 38th minute but her effort went wide following some good work from Chiwendu Ihezuo. It wasn’t all Nigeria though as the Germans also went close in the first half through a brilliant Lina Magull free-kick which was comfortably dealt with by the Nigerian goal keeper, Sandra Chiichii. If Nigeria dominated the first half, it was a completely different story in the second half as the Europeans started on the front foot.  SEE MORE ON PAGE2
