The frosty relationship between Governor Sullivan Chime and members of the Enugu State House of Assembly took a dangerous turn Tuesday as a lawmaker, Hon. John Bull Nwagu, representing Udi North, was suspended for alleged gross misconduct.
Chime whose tenure would elapse in the next six weeks, hails from Udi Local Government Area. Acting on public outcry against the last minute allocation of government lands to individuals by outgoing Chime’s administration, the House condemned in strong terms the allocation of land within the Enugu International Conference Centre to private individuals.
They warned beneficiaries of such questionable land allocation to stop further development of such land as the allocation will not stand. At the plenary of the House Tuesday, Hon. Nwagu allegedly berated the House of Assembly for turning down the Governor’s N11 billion loan request.
Out of the 18 lawmakers present at the sitting, 12 voted in favour of the suspension, 5 voted against, while one person abstained. Thereafter, the Speaker, Hon. Eugene Odo ruled that the lawmaker stands suspended pending the outcome of investigation by a committee set up by the House.
The House is equally irked over the refusal of the State Accountant General, Paschal Okolie. to release its outstanding allowances.
It, therefore, summoned the Accountant General appeared on Wednesday.
