Video: Watch Genleah “Star” Swain sings at 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia

star+swain+sings+2 Local singing sensation Genleah “Star” Swain sang the National Anthem at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on Thursday.

Swain, an assistant principal at Jefferson County Middle/High School, garnered national attention after a video of her singing The Star Spangled Banner at the Lincoln Memorial went viral.

A local assistant principal whose rendition of the National Anthem went viral in June is performing at the Democratic National Convention this week.

Genleah “Star” Swain will sing the National Anthem at the convention in Philadelphia on Thursday.

It’s not the first time many will see Swain sing the Star Spangled Banner. A Facebook Live video of her singing it at the Lincoln Memorial now has over 37.5 million views online, according to her publicist.

“I am super excited,” the 34-year-old Jefferson County Middle/High School assistant principal said. “This is an opportunity of a lifetime. I must thank all of my supporters for helping me get this far.”

She’s one of several local figures to participate in a political convention this month. Governor Rick Scott and Attorney General Pam Bondi spoke last week at the Republican National Convention, while Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum is slated to speak Wednesday at the Democratic National Convention.

Swain was shooting a music video for a single entitled “Home of the Brave” Tuesday afternoon off of Jackson Bluff Road.

The video will be released next month, but in the meantime, the singer said that she’s both nervous and humbled for her upcoming performance at the DNC.

“I feel just as nervous as I was at the Lincoln Memorial.” Swain told WCTV Tuesday. “I think it’s an honor to be able to do something at this level, I’m just super humbled by it, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.”

Swain is a Florida A&M University graduate and former member of the Marching 100, she’s currently working toward her doctoral degree at Florida State.
