WINNER of four-time African Player of the Year award Yaya Toure Blasts Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

yaya Yaya Toure, four-time winner of African Player of the Year award has continuously expressed his disappointment since Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was handed the accolade for the year 2015 at the Glo-CAF awards ceremony in Abuja, Nigeria on Thursday night.

The Manchester City midfielder who captained Ivory Coast to winning the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations immediately complained about how the best player should have emerged from the best performing team on the African continent.

The 32-year-old later in an interview with French radio RFI further stressed the ‘shame’ Africa brings to itself by not considering things that happen in Africa.

“I am very very disappointed. It is sad to see Africa behave in that manner, for not giving importance to things that happen in Africa.

“I think these are the kind of things that bring shame to Africa. Because, behaving like they did is very indecent. But what else can one do? We Africans, we don’t show to the world that Africa is important.

“We give priorities to things that happen outside the continent than things that take place here. It is lamentable.

“Even FIFA, with all the scandals going on in there, wouldn’t have done this! I think today, with what has just happened, CAF should be scrutinised as well.”

Yaya Toure was placed second to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with Black Stars vice-captain Andre Ayew taking the third place.
